Louis Vuitton Goes Big For The Holidays

  • By Vanessa Grace Ng

Louis Vuitton exemplifies the gift of giving, by, well, giving.

December has finally rolled around, and Singapore’s landscape has magically transformed to a stage for all things holly and jolly. Year on year depicts an up-and-up: decorations seem to only grow in scale. Festive lights get brighter, childhood-staple holiday tunes are blasted louder, and the mammoth holiday trees that adorn the Orchard Belt are treated with more shine and sparkle. So in the presence of this infectious abundance, it is easy to get desensitised to all the festive cheer that demarcates the cusp of the new year.

Louis Vuitton has devised a clever, lavish way to cut through the noise. Via a very big tree. At 30 tiers, the mighty and massive festive offering supersedes any that has come before. As the tallest to nestle at the site, the 21-metre Holiday Tree is monolithic, commanding attention and declaring its presence with its sheer proportions. All of which narrowly trump its bright red veneer and the 900 ornaments that depict LV-isms in the forms of the house’s mascots — Vivienne, Gaston and Doudou — and its emblematic inventions of the Alma, Speedy and Twist designs. To add to the festive setting is a seven metre-long toy truck, where the aforementioned mascots are staged in-motion, crafting, packing and delivering a flurry of gifts. Referencing Gaston Louis Vuitton’s first Salon Du Jouet from 1935, which translates to toy store, the maison accords the local metropolis with an invigorating mise-en-scène that recalls its long-standing heritage of impeccable savoir-faire and peak understanding of doing things with opulence, luxury and style.

In attendance of the holiday unveiling were some of Singapore’s biggest stars, including Glenn Yong, Desmond Tan, Lawrence Wong, Ayden Sng, and more. And to showcase Louis Vuitton’s dedication to the over-the-top, Filipino friend of the house Heart Evangelista, too, graced the event to join in on the holiday spirit of togetherness and celebration.
