Summer’s in. Amidst the slew of resort and summer collections currently being released by brands right now, Donald Glover’s creative partnership with the French-Italian brand Moncler is gearing up to be the most interesting. Glover’s idea for the season of summer? Farmwear, and it’s surprisingly-yet-unsurprisingly elevated and effortlessly cool. Gilga Farm is the name of Donald Glover’s ambitious creative agency and incubator space, set across a large avocado and orange orchard located in Ojai, California. Conceived as a playground for artists and collaborators, it embodies the spirit of creative exchange; hence, the collection is titled Moncler x Gilga Farm.
Moncler’s alpine heritage meets the Californian cool. Suede workcoats, quilted jackets and classic puffers are given a Glover makeover, combining them with softer cottons, technical linen canvas, and wool-cashmere knits. While fit for the summer, they work as perfect transitional pieces when the weather starts getting cooler. Beyond materials, it comes in a variety of macaron-esque colour selections, from your sun-soaked pinks, creams, orange and blues, it mirrors the landscape of Gilga Farms’ citrus groves.
And of course, farming requires the right set of gear: gardening hats, baseball caps with an orange, the recurring emblem and logo for the collaboration line, replacing the ‘O’ in the Moncler logo, and even a pair of strappy shoes that are a reinterpretation of the Moncler Tailgrip Vela Sandal. The core, heart and soul of the collection? The sleeping bag jacket. A floor-length puffer coat that can be folded into a functional sleeping bag, a nod to the history and evolution of Moncler. “The sleeping bag is one of the first products Moncler ever made, which inspired our sleeping bag jacket, but also led to a collection of summer fits grounded in real value”, notes Glover.
The Gilga Farm x Moncler collection was first previewed late last year at Moncler’s City of Genius event. Whether you’re a cult follower of Moncler or a hardcore fan of Donald Glover’s musical persona Childish Gambino, you can wait no longer.
