Does Gen Z party anymore? The short answer to that is: it’s complicated, but probably not. When Stuart Vevers put New York Gen Z maximalism on Coach’s runway last season, it became a brand associated with youth culture. This season, Coach’s runway continues to deliver a collection that its newfound Gen Z audience will love, yet nudges them forward.

For Spring/Summer ’27, Vevers looks to the past, keeps the codes, and then turns it inside-out – literally. The aim isn’t a preservation of Coach icons and Vevers-style icons, it was to create something familiar yet completely new — especially for its 85th birthday. It’s all in the details. Coach’s fan-favourite Brooklyn tote spills its guts turned inside out, the Tabby is cut up and reworked into a collaged Franken-Tabby, and leather jackets strut down the runway but with worn-down sleeves. The 1970-era Turnlock Tote is rubbed raw with metallic foil confetti, glitter and nail-polish.
The tailoring is slim and clean, with classical proportions, but created with repurposed secondhand material, or rubbed with gold and silver metallic foil and loveworn. Slowly, remnants of a party begin to seep into the collection: confetti, stray specks of glitter and party hats, of course. Hair is stylishly messy, curls and tufts slightly tangled and out of place. Nails are cracked and chipped, and glitter is dotted across shoulders, arms, and leather gifts and birthday cards packages.

Only remnants of such a storied and celebrated history remain, but how else does time move if not forward? Where else can you go after a party is done, except home where you await the next day? The metaphor is pretty clear at this point of the show.
As any well-loved item does, they get worn down over time – they’re softened and get beat up. The question is how you want to remember them. For Vevers, it’s renewal in repurposing materials and silhouettes for a new day. Nothing remains, only changes. It’s the specks of glitter you find in the crook of your elbow, on the bottom of your purse, or in the dusty corner of your room days later — either way, it’ll remind you of a night you might not remember wholly, but still feel.
Vevers’ Coach Spring/Summer ’27 collection is about how nothing remains, only changes. It’s the specks of glitter you find in the crook of your elbow, on the bottom of your purse, or in the dusty corner of your room days later — either way, it’ll remind you of a night you might not remember, but still feel. That’s what Coach sees for the season something you feel and love oh so vividly, even without all the memories.
