It is not revelatory to say that the Thai entertainment industry is — if not already — the next big thing.

The past year alone — with a host of Thai celebrities attending everything from Fashion Week to achieving ambassadorships — gave us a glimpse of the Kingdom’s talents blossoming into their own. It is a rhythm that fluctuates in tandem with its regional predecessors, but now that “Thai Wind” has found its place in the widespread pop- culture sphere — all that remains is speculation about what lies ahead.

Sitting in between the present and its future is “Blue” Pongtiwat Tangwancharoen — who despite being just a few years into his undoubtedly young and expanding career — has already been connected to K-Pop, Korean variety programmes and the sweet spots of luxury fashion.

The 23-year-old’s role as Pok in TV3’s Krong Kam may have given him just the right amount of attention to start, but his burgeoning rise can be traced to Food Truck Battle: Season 2 — Blue made his first connection between Thailand and South Korea with guest stars Ten and YangYang of WayV/NCT and Woodz.

“Engaging with new people and making friends during the Food Truck project was ultimately enjoyable,” shares Blue. “While overcoming the language barriers was challenging, the supportive and friendly atmosphere made the production smoother.”

This year, he has worked on Amarin TV’s THE FAMILY, but leading his connection with K-pop was a brief hosting stint at 2023’s K Global Heart Dream Awards. Blue — who revealed his attendance on Twitter — drew immediate attention for obvious reasons. Amongst the impenetrable presence of Stray Kids, Red Velvet’s Seulgi and NCT’s Taeyong (Blue has emphasised the latter K-pop idol as his bias), his first appearance for a Korean award show finally gave rise to his name to an audience many would envy.

It also foreshadows a diverging path for the actor, who has his eyes set on looking at other avenues to hone him craft. “I like to engage in work that aligns with my interests and passions to make any job a fulfilling endeavour,” shares Blue.

He also speaks of his love of fashion, citing his experience at this year’s Milan Fashion Week as fulfilling. “Working with an international team, gaining insights into the fashion industry, and forming friendships with people from diverse backgrounds” made his time in Milan “truly enriching.”

While Blue has had the honour of wearing many hats (and personalities) by attending an impeccable number of fashion events, he affirms that his style is simple. “I prefer a casual street style for everyday wear, prioritising comfort. I enjoy experimenting with various styles for work to keep things interesting.”

When a rising name finds its way to fame, it is always certainly accompanied by a story of self-reflection. But how do you reflect on a career you cannot help but feel as though it is only beginning? Indeed, Blue’s journey is no exception, and in the process of believing that there is still more to bring to the table, he relies on devoting his trajectory to completedetermination.

“Undoubtedly, I learn and grow from every work experience. It’s all about acknowledging mistakes and continuously striving for improvement,” he shares. When asked to give himself advice for what will surely come, Blue enthuses, “I would tell myself: keep going; you’ve got this!”

While there is more to learn about the actor (and soon singer), make no mistake: Blue is no ephemera in the world of “Thai Wind”.
