Berluti Fall Winter 2021 Presents A “Touching” Collection

  • By Wilson Lim

The digital presentation of the Berluti Fall Winter 2021 collection was titled “Living Apart Together” — born from the collaboration between artistic director, Kris Van Assche; video director, Antoine Asseraf and creative consultant, Yoann Lemoine — devoted to the figurative act of crossing borders.

A scene familiar to us all now — the floor signage of social distancing is employed as an illustration of the limitations of the current times. Expressed through choreography, the movements emote a sense of freedom to be found within the boundaries of constraint — mindful rather than physical.

The Berluti Fall Winter 2021 collection features a vivid colour palette through the adaptation of Russian painter, Lev Khesin’s works. His expression comes through the tactile patterns created through multiple layers and colours of silicone paint, which echoes Berluti’s artisanal patina methods where leather are dyed and faded by hand. The resulting textures of both forms of art and fashion draws a compelling urge to touch and feel them.

Since Van Assche’s joining of the Maison three years ago, he has been introducing a new colour vocabulary — in particular, purple — to the world of leather craft. Through Van Assche, leather does not need to be a staid brown or black or be paired with a neutral ensemble. For Berluti Fall Winter 2021, he brings the audience on a journey to watch his colourful collection patina over time where the signature patina technique is adapted from leather goods to ready-to-wear.

The Berluti Fall Winter 2021 collection is a proposition for men to expand their classic wardrobe to include expressive hues in a familiar slim silhouette replete with essential menswear like suits, sweaters and shirts.

Look 13: While the in-the-now sling bags might be focused, please direct your attention to the stitched belt loop with keychain that brings a luxurious detail to the staid work pants in the Berluti Fall Winter 2021 collection.

Look 28: The attention to details is a huge aspect of luxury Maisons — the suit jacket “matches up” with the suit pants where the tonal patterns intersect seamlessly.

Look 2: If the above suit from the Berluti Fall Winter 2021 is too severe, consider the more casual, oversized version that is an equal standout.

Look 3: A checkered coat with distinct leather stitch trimmings goes beyond aesthetics to provide structure for a sharp look.

Look 25: The “granddad” quilted jacket is also edged up with hand-stitched leather strips for the contemporary audience.

Look 11: Lev Keshin’s artwork on proud display as wearable art on this Berluti Fall Winter 2021 coat.

Look 29: The “droplets” on the blouson jacket will make anyone want to confirm its texture by touching it.

Look 1: The opening look for the Berluti Fall Winter 2021 collection proves that there are no such things as rules to menswear — suits don’t have to match, belts and shoes neither — as long as they look this good in an ensemble.

Look 14: For those who prefer to not err on the side of error, this is a classic look to cop.
