Balenciaga opens its third outpost in Singapore at the Singapore Changi Airport.
Balenciaga has opened a new store in Singapore Changi Airport’s Terminal 1, adding on to the existing two stores at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands and Paragon.
The 140-square metre space showcases the brand’s experimental Raw Architecture concept, where the interior is designed with respect to the existing structural elements of the space. This was conceived to question the nature of authenticity with design details like simulated corrosion and rough edges evoking the passage of time. This atemporal space will feature all the latest Balenciaga products — men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, shoes, bags, accessories, and eyewear.
A backlit Balenciaga sign fronts the store’s rough concrete entrance, open on two sides. Intentionally unfinished columns and walls set the location apart from its polished surroundings. The interior of the store is decked with industrial lighting and racks that hang from a gridded ceiling. Concrete and metal surfaces are stained with the patinas deployed as finishes.
The floor is made of raked cement tiles that resemble an outdoor sidewalk, serving as a bridge between the coded elements of the public and private spaces.
