Every week, the Men’s Folio Team shares the latest tech items that they desire, not limiting to whether these gadgets will actually end up in their possession. This week, it’s all about gaming devices and accessories.
Planning for year-end parties means finding activities to keep our guests entertained and busy when food is not the main event. Gaming devices have become more and more inclusive for group gatherings thanks to the pandemic and the rise of multiplayer games in general, so look on for a collation of what to get, beyond stuffing them with food and wine for good measure.
This might be especially beneficial if you don’t already have a Switch at home. The world of games is a fascinating one, and a surprisingly (or obviously) nostalgic one too.
Bryan Goh, Deputy Editor: Cardcaptor Sakura Gameboy Color
All the neuroses and trauma I have racked up over the years can be healed in an instant once I purchase this particular version of the Gameboy Color. In fact, I will be ignoring my deadlines after typing this sentence to scour the depths of the internet for it. PS: Sakura is wearing my favourite costume on the front, the Catch You Catch Me costume.
Charmaine Tan, Senior Digital Writer: Nintendo DS
My first and only gaming device that holds the memories of when I took care of my first Nintendog, learnt to cook with Cooking Mama, and fell in love with Pokemon (via Pokemon Diamond and Pearl).
Izwan Abdullah, Associate Creative Director: Xbox Series X
The Xbox Series X is undoubtedly the biggest underdog in the gaming console world now. The console is perfect for the living room with its ability to run a wide array of apps from the Microsoft store. When Izwan is not gaming, you can expect him to be binge-watching the new season of The Crown on the Xbox Series X.
Bani Zafran, Art Assistant: Halo Green Special Edition Xbox
Nothing takes me through a lovely jaunt through memory lane better than the OG Xbox. The Halo edition, of course. This chunky, ridge-riddled, green and semi-transparent box was the catalyst for my art dream awakening. It was also how I primarily bonded with my brothers and still do to this day.
Asaph Low, Managing Editor: Sony PlayStation 5
I’m going to be boring and recommend the PlayStation 5 because I missed out on PlayStation 4 deliberately. Unfortunately, stock replenishments are still slow, so I can afford to wait a little longer.
Manfred Lu, Senior Fashion Stylist and Writer: Razer Kitty Ear USB Headset with Chroma
There isn’t anything more I’d rather need now than a headset. So, why not a wayward one?
