Sound Gets Luxury Treatment with the New Portable LV Nanogram Speaker

  • By Charmaine Tan

Shaped to rest like a spinning top and coated in the savoir-faire of Louis Vuitton’s heritage trunks, the new portable LV Nanogram Speaker outfits luxury sound for travel and adventure.

Louis Vuitton has been at the forefront of the luxury conversation for decades, and for a good reason. Even with one of the most powerful creative voices helming the trajectory of its growth today, the Maison never skims on the upkeep of its craftsmanship-focused traditions, and instead always finds a way to meld that with new ideas.

The new LV Nanogram Speaker is a perfect reiteration of this feat, building on the legacy and unparalleled creativity of the Maison in three audio-maximised and crafted declinations — essential, timeless “Silver”; soft, natural “Copper”;and statement khaki green “Damoflage”, a limited edition colourway conceived by Pharrell Williams and debuted with his own debut collection.

Lightweight, portable and a reverential reflection of the iconic Louis Vuitton Toupie bag, the LV Nanogram Speaker was engineered to deliver breathtaking sound, measuring at just 13.5 cm across and weighing just 520g, combined with an aluminium body and colour-matched, metallized rubber ring. It also comes with a removable hook so it can be attached to a bag or belt loop, underlining its status as an additional fashion accessory.

Closer inspection of the craftsmanship details of the LV Nanogram speaker reveals a natural cowhide leather handle pointing back to those iconic LV trunks, finished with yellow stitching and a red-dyed edge. This is tethered to the speaker with Louis Vuitton engraved steel studs, evoking memories of the fixings that held wooden reinforcement batons in place on the Maison’s early trunk designs.

The body also carries debossed Louis Vuitton Monogram flowers; the perforated aluminium speaker grille is laser-cut to reveal the LV initials; the rubber ring is decorated with 12 letters spelling out the name of the Maison, each of which is backlit by an LED when the speaker is activated; and the steel buttons are all gently engraved with an icon to indicate their function.
