Men’s Folio Music Fridays (#MFMF) brings you a range of weekly music updates, providing you with fresh new tracks or generally just great music to jam to. Whether you’re staring out the bus window pretending to be in a music video, or getting ready for a night out in the town, we have the perfect playlist featuring our favourite Singles, EPs and Albums from around the world.
5. Medasin / Irene
The 42-second track “Weird Summer” opens the album with instrumentals paralleling the cover, a futuristic forest. Standout tracks include “Leaving Earth 2”, “Warm Blue” and “Tired (feat. Sophie Meiers)”. The mostly downtempo electronic album is quintessential for days when you just want to lay about being pensive.
4. Moses Sumney / Black in Deep Red, 2014
Last year Moses Sumney gave us Aromanticism, a profound and vulnerable debut album, and now he is back with a nine minute EP, Black in Deep Red, 2014. Track one, “Power?” rallies “power to the people” in a majestic Sumney way, before leading into “Call-to-Arms”, a track where him falsettos it out and gets pretty epic towards the end. The EP closes with “Rank & File”, which discusses police brutality through lyrics such as “Say protect and serve us / but murder’s not service”.
3. Elley Duhé / DRAGON MENTALITY
You have probably heard of her club track “Immortal” remixed by Snakehips, or Zedd featuring her on “Happy”. If you’re not aware, don’t worry as you can now vibe to her new EP, DRAGON MENTALITY. Duhé’s album mixes pop and hiphop influences with New Orleans and Mumbai sounds, heard on tracks such as “FEVER”, “WAY DOWN LOW” and “STARZ”.
2. Zhu featuring Majid Jordan / Coming Home
Majid Jordan has been making wonderful music for the past few years. So has Zhu. This unexpected collaboration is everything we didn’t know we needed.
1. Sabrina Claudio / no rain, no flowers
Midweek, we got blessed with some sexual healing from 22-year-old Sabrina Claudio. Her debut album no rain, no flowers comprises of eight tracks that follow her April’18 releases, “All to You” and “Don’t Let Me Down” (accompanied by Khalid). In the album, Claudio serves mellow beats with her crooning, with lyrical content covering tenderness for her lover and leaving her mark. One standout track is “Naked” with lyrics: “All of me is all for you / Uncover all of my truths / Undress my fears, leave me nude / All of me is all for you / For you”. While we eagerly await visuals for this new album, check out the incredible video for “Unravel Me” from her About Time mixtape.
