It seems like every singer this day wants a hefty slice of the “romance singles” pie. Sure, it works for some because they’ve practically engineered their discographies and artistry behind it but for Kevin Woo, this is a bit of an anomaly. Why? Because this is the singer who’s quite literally filled with “aegyo” charm and was once ranked the number one luckiest Hallyu star.

How? Well, “Got It”, the 8th single by Kevin Woo talks about love differently. It focuses on the tribulations of a toxic relationship and feeling the depths of despair while being hooked. And in case you’re wondering what it sounds like, hit the listen button below or keep scrolling for our interview with Woo. We promise it’s a earworm.

Hello Kevin, please introduce yourself or anybody unfamiliar with you (how dare them!).
Hi, I’m Kevin Woo and I am a Korean-American singer and actor. I was born and raised in San Francisco, California and moved to Korea at the age of 15 to become a K-Pop star. I debuted in the boyband U-KISS in 2008 and currently and I’m a solo artist pursuing my own music.

Since you’re “The K-Pop Guru”, what are some obscure facts you know?
K-Pop idols aren’t allowed to use their phones from their debut until a certain level of success. K-pop idols dress for “airport fashion” and usually change into more comfortable attire before they board their flight.

What have you been up to recently?
I’ve been continuously working on new music and preparing for acting in Hollywood. Also, there’s a new podcast in the works that I’m excited to launch this year.

Congrats on the new single “Got It”, can you tell us more about it?
My new single “Got It” is about toxic relationships and how it’s hard to leave something that’s bad for you but makes you feel good. It’s a perfect blend between dance pop/R&B and K-Pop inspired by retro vibes.

What about the inspiration behind “Got It” then? Was it easy to work with Alex and Shintaro?
This is one of my first songs that I’ve fully written and I wanted to write something that was honest to me. We all have our guilty pleasures and I hope the audience can resonate with it. I worked on this song with Alex and Shintaro via Zoom.

It was a bit tricky at first, but as we got used to it, it was really convenient for us because we were all scattered in different parts of the world. They are both incredibly talented and our chemistry clicked from the very beginning.

What is your favourite lyric from “Got It”? What does it mean to you?

“Even though it hurts it feels so good” I like the contrast of emotions in this lyric. There are some things in my life that are challenging, but at the end of the day, I keep on gravitating towards it because it’s what makes me feel alive.

Lastly, what is next for you? What can your fans expect from you this year?
I’ve been writing a lot of music during the pandemic and I can’t wait to release more new music this year and hopefully when the world allows, I want to go on tour to meet my fans in person.
