Bored Ape Moves Into Toy Collectibles And Beauty
BAYC makes waves with ‘SuperBored’, Bored Ape’s first-ever vinyl toy collaboration, while its NFT owners expand into the beauty scene.

Bored Ape Yacht Club has become an undisputed force, leading at the forefront of the web3 world. Last week, the wildly popular NFT project released a collection of coveted vinyl art toys. And on the beauty side, the collaboration between two BAYC NFT owners and Glamour Dolls is set to drop this week. Yuga Labs’ Bored Ape Yacht Club and Superplastic — the world’s top creator of animated celebs, vinyl toys & digital collectibles — have teamed up for a collection of vinyl art toys.

The ‘SuperBored’ vinyl collectibles feature five caricatures in the BAYC universe, 13-inch in size and priced at US$222. The timed open edition drop began on 14 April at 1 pm ET on Superplastic’s website and is currently all sold out.

For BAYC and Superplastic NFT holders, special editions were available. Each collectible was available for 15 minutes only: ‘BAYC Curtis’ for BAYC NFT holders; ‘Superplastic Skipper’ for Superplastic Cryptojankyz & Headtripz NFT holders; ‘MAYC Curtis’ for MAYC NFT holders; and the general public gained access to ‘Public Curtis’ and ‘Public Skipper’.

Paul Budnitz, founder and CEO of Superplastic, told Hypebeast: “We already owned an Ape and used it as a model for the first toy, and the BAYC team worked with us on concepts, designs, and story development. Everything came together super-fast and it’s been a wildly fun ride, like most things in the NFT & web3 universe.”

Budnitz further added that both brands “are about fashion, art and telling stories” which resulted in an organic partnership as they broke traditional creative boundaries and forge new ways of doing things. Currently, Superplastic is leading the virtual celebrity space with Janky and Guiggimon characters made playable in the video game ‘Fortnite’. The company has also worked with J Balvin, Paris Hilton, Christie’s, and Gucci.

Meanwhile, Yuga Labs CEO Nicole Muniz said the collaboration “shows that NFTs are not just about digital art or music, but a way to access and participate in new markets and economies”.

And in an unexpected yet alluring crossover, BAYC NFT owners have also partnered with indie beauty brand Glamour Dolls for a collection of hair and skincare products. The new Glamour Dolls Flower collection features Bored Ape #8240 and Bored Ape #772, offering a range of face creams and body mousse to massage candles.

Last year, Glamour Dolls CEO Peter Georgotas was approached by creative director Pinar Lacroix about the flourishing NFT world and its possibilities. “She understood the potential before anyone was even looking at it, and believed that linking up with a beauty brand was a great way to introduce more women and non-binary people to the space,” Georgotas told Highsnobiety.

Glamour Dolls also hinted at more BAYC NFT faces in the near future. This crossover brings more web3 concepts onto the table for brands in all industries as NFT owners start to capitalise on their blockchain purchases.
