Bottega Veneta’s Latest Sneakers Embodies Motion

  • By Sadiq Shah

Bottega Veneta’s newest sneaker encapsulates creative director Matthieu Blazy’s fascination with motion.

Movement is a concept that has fascinated Matthieu Blazy since his debut as Bottega Veneta’s creative director. His earliest collection existed in stillness, as seen in wide-legged jeans that have since become a signature style. It was then showcased in campaigns where movement was documented in a surreal flux — sinuous motion generated by multiple subjects showcased a new surreal reality set forth by his vision. But what is movement if not about how we walk and what we choose to walk with? Thus, the leather maestro introduces an accessory rich with cultural history to move ahead with the time. For the first time, the good-old sneakers orbit around its focus — and it was about time.

As a contemporary wardrobe staple, the come-up of sneakers within luxury fashion is not a new concoction — pioneer tastemakers of the early 2010s have cemented their place amongst some of the most exclusive brands in the world. First conceived as practical footwear, its association with street culture further catapulted its significance within luxury fashion when its designers were (then) lured by a growing infatuation with street aesthetics. But its best selling point is that it manages to negotiate style and comfort equally — making this mix of high and low the perfect instrument for growing sales.

Here lies the introduction of the Orbit sneakers by Matthieu Blazy. For Bottega Veneta, it was time to carve another niche within the shoe category after the Puddle boot, which debuted under the previous creative director, became a sleeper hit for the brand.

A focus on innovation and unique design is seen in the Orbit sneaker. Serving as an ode to people constantly on the move, the sneaker boasts an ergonomic innovation that appeals to both comfort seekers and fashion-forward individuals alike. The sneaker’s design, which echoes the recent inclination towards a retro sneaker style, is a nod to the signature intrecciato weave with carefully chosen technical mesh fabric. With three colourways, the Orbit sneaker is a seamless addition to any wardrobe that promises incredible comfort while maintaining the ease of use we have come to love about the house.
