Seiko Captures the Alluring “Blue Tears” Phenomenon for Its Thong Sia Group Exclusive Release

The stunning nighttime “Blue Tears” bioluminescence spectacle finds its way into the Seiko Prospex Diver’s Watch HBB006 “Blue Tears” Thong Sia Group Exclusive release dedicated to Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, and Brunei.

Jacques Cousteau once famously said, “The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever,” an ode to the sea’s deep mystery and beauty. With a deep connection to the open waters, Seiko drew inspiration from the captivating phenomenon of “Blue Tears” for its Thong Sia Group Exclusive release. The resulting Seiko Prospex Diver’s Watch HBB006 “Blue Tears” was created and dedicated to Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, and Brunei.

The Seiko Prospex Diver’s Watch is the Japanese watchmaker’s quintessential dive watch. Now in its fourth-generation design, it continues to revel in its bubble of clout and affection among collectors and enthusiasts. The dive watch has garnered a cult following since its 2004 unveiling and is better known as the “Samurai” for its sword-shaped hands that recall the silhouette of a katana. One major change of this iteration is a smaller overall case profile, now measuring 41.7mm by 12.3mm.

Microscopic single-celled organisms known as dinoflagellates play an important role in the ecosystem, converting large amounts of carbon dioxide into oxygen and serving as a base food source for the food chain. While its function is vital and, to be honest, unsexy, Seiko turned to it for the beautiful spectacle it wields. As darkness envelops a waning sun, dinoflagellate-rich waters dance in a stunning display of bioluminescence. From a passing boat, footsteps on the shore, or the ebb and flow of waves, these microscopic organisms emit bright flashes of blue or green when physically agitated.

Instead of dabbling with the black colour code template that defines dive watches, Seiko opted for a blue-on-blue execution for the Seiko Prospex Diver’s Watch HBB006 “Blue Tears”. This alluring nighttime “Blue Tears” spectacle became the base colourway of the 1200-piece limited edition watch. A deep blue sunray dial glistens against the vibrant blue seconds hand and dark blue bezel. Seiko’s proprietary luminescent material, High-intensity Lumibrite, adds a final touch of nighttime glow to the hands and hour indices. The Seiko Prospex Diver’s Watch HBB006 “Blue Tears” is housed in a 200m water-resistant stainless steel case (with either a silicone strap or a steel bracelet), meets Seiko’s Prospex requirements, and is powered by the automatic Calibre 4R35.

The Seiko Prospex Diver’s Watch HBB006 “Blue Tears” reminds us that the ocean’s most captivating spectacles often emerge from the smallest life forms. By translating this fleeting display of bioluminescence into a lasting design, Seiko captures a fragment of the sea’s nocturnal magic on the wrist.

The Seiko Prospex Diver’s Watch HBB006 “Blue Tears” is exclusively available at all Seiko Takashimaya, VivoCity, and JEM boutiques and e-commerce platform.
