Beauty encases itself in an aluminium shell. Our everyday lives are constantly influenced by movement and human flow. For German luggage brand RIMOWA and Swiss design company Vitra, these two icons of the design world use mobility and versatility as a steady source of inspiration. Marking their first ever collaboration, it yields high expectations — and unsurprisingly delivers a sleek, effortless and compelling set of products for consumers.
For customers, being in the know about RIMOWA and Vitra is a mark of distinction, sort of a deep cut, if you will. While being firmly embedded in the cultural zeitgeist, only the select few are able to appreciate and identify with the different products that the companies release. What they stand for, what it means, and what they represent to the wearer.
The collection consists of two items: the Aluminium Stool and the Aluminium Toolbox.
As mentioned, the design puts emphasis on mobility, most notably the stool, which is mounted using RIMOWA’s proprietary Multiwheel system. Its exterior features the brand’s signature grooved aluminium, while its fabric-lined interior, divided into different compartments, carries Vitra’s own touch. A padded cushion can be placed on top, converting it into a more comfortable seat. For the toolbox, it is designed based on the Vitra Toolbox, created by French designer Arik Levy in 2010. While its original design was encased in recycled plastic, it is now given a luxe upgrade, adapting RIMOWA’s durable aluminium casing. As a bonus, a themed sticker set is also available for purchase as well. Featuring motifs that interpret both brand’s signature design elements, they are fun additions to the product lineup.
The collaboration doesn’t end there, too. With high respect to craftsmanship, the products are jointly manufactured at RIMOWA and Vitra’s respective production centres. With the aluminium components crafted in RIMOWA’s Cologne headquarters, and upholstery done up in Vitra’s Weil am Rhein campus, you can guarantee superb build quality and personal touch to each product you purchase.
