SEE LV makes its fifth pit-stop in Sydney
SEE LV, an exhibition covering the history of the Louis Vuitton House, makes its fifth pit-stop in Sydney from 4 November to 11 December.

While most of us would regard Louis Vuitton as an iconic fashion house, its highly-decorated stints in exhibitions and in-person experiences compels them to be seen as more of an institution, an empire. With spin-off shows appearing across Asia and travelling exhibitions that span multiple cities at once, its current and most prevailing project of the 2020s lies in the SEE LV exhibition — an exhibition covering the history of the House and contemporary editions of its codes has made a pit stop in Sydney from 4 November to 11 December as its fifth stop in its global tour.

The journey of SEE LV began with its world-wide inauguration in Wuhan in 2020, followed by Hangzhou, Dubai, and most recently, Tokyo. Its Sydney edition is set upon the beauty of the Australian coastal metropolis, where the exhibition joins the calendar of exciting festivals and events.

Located at First Fleet Park, guests are expected to view five pillars in its list of programmes. Visitors will be greeted by a portrait of young Louis Vuitton, conceived by artist Refik Anadol using Artificial Intelligence, they enter a room featuring a reverse-chronology selection of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear pieces. To demonstrate the Maison’s longtime connection to fashion, a 19th-century archival gown is displayed next to a vintage trunk from 1906.

Visitors will then witness a wall of Louis Vuitton’s most recognisable bags, including the Steamer, Speedy, Noé, and Twist, as well as pictures of their famous pals, like Miranda Kerr, Jennifer Connelly, Samara Weaving, Kendall Jenner, Hugh Jackman, and many more. The important achievements Louis Vuitton made to the development of luggage typologies are then highlighted in a separate chamber, which includes the classic Wardrobe trunk, the Skateboard trunk, 1920s Auto trunks, and the Louis Vuitton 2054 raincoat-tent from 2020.

The five universes also include an exploration of the House’s fashion legacy. Men’s and women’s looks created by Virgil Abloh and Nicolas Ghesquière, like Kim Jones and Marc Jacobs before them are on display, where each designer is present through looks from their first and more recent shows. Bags have played a role in the history of the Maison. At SEE LV, one can see how the famous shapes have remained to inspire throughout time despite being originally designed in leather to go along on small adventures or folded in hard-sided baggage.

Lastly, the Éditions Louis Vuitton’s latest literary launches and publications in a specially curated library space. Visitors can sit and delve into the Maison’s catalogue of over 100 titles at the end of their journey.
