Can I just say that your mug is always #flawless which suggests to me that it’s not just Fenty Beauty that does the work. It’s your skin that provides the perfect base for the products. What’s your skincare secret then?
Thank you! I mean, I think beauty comes from the inside and out. I try to take good care of my health, work out, and I’m diligent about a good daily skincare routine!
How did this collaboration come about? I’m assuming you were already a big Fenty fan so could you remember the first product you used? What made you go “This is legit”?
This collaboration came about when the Fenty team reached out to me, and I couldn’t believe it when I read that email. I was like, of course, I’m a huge Fenty fan! It was a no brainer to work with them.
I love what the brand stands for and the products are amazing and really high quality!
Is there perhaps a Fenty product that you use differently from what it’s meant to do?
I actually used Fenty Skin’s Hydra Vizor SPF on my entire body when I was just in Mexico. It’s definitely a bit more expensive to use for your whole body, but I love the lightweight texture, skincare benefits, and SPF! Worth it!
Obviously, the Fenty DNA is about being inclusive and diverse. But you know, there’s some kind of glamour associated with it. Sort of like you’re tapping into Rihanna’s universe and being “her” for the period you’re using the product. Would you agree?
Oh, I totally agree, I definitely feel like I’m channeling Rihanna every time I wear Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin! It makes me feel fearless, unapologetic, and totally myself.
I’m so proud to partner with a brand that is so inclusive, and I’m proud that as an Asian man, I’m able to join forces with a brand created by a strong African American woman. I love the significance of that partnership and the strength of that community!
You know, the thing about Fenty Skin products is that they’re globally usable, which is to say, they perform no matter where you are. Since you’re a jet setter, do you think the same?
I definitely agree that Fenty Skin products work no matter where I am. Personally, the most important thing I can do for my skin at night is to hydrate. I love using Butta Drop Body Cream every single night, no matter the climate I am in.
And I use Hydra Vizor Moisturizer every day because SPF is so important. It keeps you young forever, I hope, haha!
What is the #1 trick you’ve learnt from makeup artist Priscilla Ono?
I learned that prepping the skin is very important. She taught me how to use an eye mask. Priscilla taught me that having good skin first is important as a base before you’re applying anything else.
And she told me that she loves Fenty Skin’s Fat Water Toner Serum, which I love as well because it helps minimize your pores. I definitely do need more time with her though!
What about a trick you’ve come up with on your own?
I love using the Killawatt Fluid Freestyle Highlighter to really define my nose bridge and and cheekbones. I also love Fenty Beauty’s Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer to really chisel and add warmth to my complexion.
If you’re somehow marooned on an island like Tom Hanks in Wilson, what Fenty product would the Search & Rescue team find in your bag?
I could not live without Fenty Skin’s Hydra Vizor SPF 30 because I like tanning so it’s important that I wear sunscreen!
Lastly, I usually ask this to everybody I interview for the first time: what is the #1 most played song on your Spotify last year?
I know this year has to be Big Energy with Mariah Carey and Latto. Last year I’m not sure, I’ll have to go back and trace it, but for this year, it’s definitely louder with Mariah Carey. Big energy!
