CD Diamond: Dior Men's Newest Addition For Summer 2022
Artistic director Kim Jones reveals the new CD Diamond accessories line from the Dior Men menswear Summer 2022 collection, featuring a new graphic motif that feels surreal in today’s new age of classicism.

Shapes are objects that speak; they alert as octagons in stop signs reaffirm as stars on marked homework and centre our attention as circles in pin-drops. They became a dominant fixture in our lives during the space age when design evolved from the detailed to the natural sonorous state with geometry. Wallpapers across hotels, offices and homes were plastered with these repeating patterns of shapes, simple in theory yet they communicated a variety of meaning and intention with different applications of colours and shape variety.

The shape-based subject matter is a psychological fixture of our ever-evolving society. Charting this evolution ultimately magnifies its importance, as shapes retain importance for fashion; repeating shapes appear on bags, wallets, shoes and clothes as monograms, the hallmark of brand’s visual identity.

CD Diamond: Dior Men's Newest Addition For Summer 2022Dior’s repeating shape lies in the form of words in its iconic Oblique monogram pattern; named after Christian Dior’s Fall/Winter collection in 1950, and first revealed on a bag in a 1969 haute couture collection, before decorating most of the house’s luggage collection in 1971. The Dior Oblique still exerts the same intention today as it was once intended; a symbol of taste, seducing with intelligence, and an emblem for luxury. For the menswear Summer 2022 collection, artistic director Kim Jones reveals yet another innovation to the history of Dior, with the launch of the CD Diamond pattern.

The graphic motif, designed by Marc Bohan in 1974, is a clean-cut diamond pattern that echoes a sense of the surreal when inspected in the context of the day. Printed using silkscreen on cotton canvas, the new pattern is seen on its new accessories line — detailing a new, eclectic era for Dior under the hands of Jones.
