Phonk Playlist

I do not drift, let a lone have a driver’s licence, but there is just something about phonk music that scratches my brain right. The phonk movement originated from Souncloud, where rappers sample old rap tapes from the early 1990s hip hop and combine them with elements from jazz and funk.

I once saw a Tik Tok (of course) video using a phonk song as their audio and got curious, and I have not looked back since. They’re good to listen to while gaming, driving fast (speeding is bad), or if you just want to listen to beats that hit hard. No thoughts, head empty.

Pharmacist – North Memphis

If you search up ‘phonk’ in YouTube, this is most likely the most viewed video there. As it should be, with the tempo already rapidly picking up in the first five seconds and it just keeps getting better as the song goes. Every time I listen to this I feel like I’m in a high-speed police car chase. It’s a good time.

KSLV – Disaster

The distortion in this song is absolutely *chef’s kiss*. The song itself is relatively short, but I could put this on loop for hours and never get tired of it. Sometimes when I need an extra push or motivation to finish a task, this is the song that I’ll put on repeat.

Prod 7OH2 – 6IXSPEED

There’s a specific part in this song that I can’t get enough of, at 37 seconds where the gunshot syncs up with the beat drop. The closest thing I can probably do to experience drifting is drift in GTA 5, but I can’t even do that. I will just have to settle by living vicariously through this song in my phonk playlist.

MGMT – Little Dark Age (Prødigy Remix)

This remixed song makes me feel like an antihero in a dystopian movie finding out the ugly truths of the world. A girl can only dream.
