The Gift Of A Winter’s Summer: The North Face x Gucci
As the second chapter of the Gucci’s partnership with The North Face makes its way to boutiques worldwide, we examine the collection’s relationship with fashion’s opulence and the technical wear of nature.

The first time Gucci released its collaboration with The North Face late last year, it was heavily advertised as a capsule collection of technical-wear designed to withstand the forces of nature. But underneath the mechanism of the many outstanding pieces from that collection, there was something symbolic meant for its wearers to discover — a suggestion for escapism.

Amidst the opulence the Italian House has procured over many decades lies a simple formula to its strategy — Gucci sells dreams. It does best many have failed to do with luxury fashion, which is the simple act of packaging promised fascinations of what one’s life could be at the convenience of a simple purchase.

And it works. Gucci has amassed a new cult following in the recent years, and especially so with the younger audiences, all thanks to its successful (and we dare say, tasteful) take on seduction through fashion. Its forthcoming second chapter with The North Face anticipates the very same thirst for escapism, picking up exactly where it was left off.

Designed as a cross-category collection for both men and women, the collection of ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories follows the same attributes as its predecessor. Bomber jackets and vests feature the iconic GG monogram applied all over reimagined 1990s The North Face styles decorated with colourful prints — some of which inspired by Gucci’s archive.  Technical versions of beloved Gucci items are also available in the collection, with more versatile ready-to-wear options this time.

These pieces are then constructed in a minimal approach that sees the use of an ultralight bonded baffle construction instead of stitching, unique yarn constructions to thermoregulate during wear, and transfer printing on a nylon base. ECONYL® – a nylon fabric created from regenerated materials fishing nets, carpets and other scraps — were utilised in the construction of the pieces, furthering the House’s commitment to its Carbon Neutral goal.

The collection will be made available at all Gucci boutiques in Singapore in January.
