What makes some of these local or global creatives tick? In this weekly column, Rizman Putra shares his favourite things.

1. Fashion: I love mixing and matching clothes that are not connected to each other. Especially in a performance like the one above, a keynote piece for Singapore Writers’ Festival, “Obit: The Art of Being.”
2. Costumes: I am a closeted costume enthusiast, and I fully embrace that for my performances with Tiramisu. In this photo, my partner Shawna Chia created this dress for Tiramisu’s performance in Baybeats 2021.
3. Travels: A large part of my work life has involved travelling and performing in foreign countries. This photo is a reminder of a life I once had — particularly this one that is close to my heart — where I spent close to two months creating a monster of a work based on the history of gongs entitled “Marginal Gongs”.
4. Machines: One of the many devices I use when I am performing with NADA is the TC-Helicon Voicelive Touch. This machine gives me the ability to have different kinds of voices that I can play with.
5. Pets: Due to me having the schedule of a freelancer, I only get to spend time with my partner and Ella the cat once a week. Here is an image of the fluffball.
6. Visual Arts: When I am not performing or teaching, I return to drawing and painting. Here is a post-exhibition image of us packing up the space and sold drawings.
7. Online Shopping: This costume is a testament of my love for Shopee. Whenever we get called for gigs, I will spend hours scrolling through Shopee for various objects and materials to create outlandish costumes for the performance.
8. Family: One of my favourite images of my family and I in our natural habitat = Everyone ignoring me while I demand attention from the camera.
9. Bonus nonsense: Before the Tiktokers made thrifting a thing, art school kids like us would trawl the Salvation Army and Sungei Road for 501s and bell bottom jeans. This vintage dress is one of the great finds.
