Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 — The Flagship Revival With Integrated Bracelet Award
Tissot ushered in a hit of nostalgia as it unveiled the flagship Tissot PRX collection to great fanfare. Unbeknownst to most, the PRX was a 1970s creation designed on the back of the stainless steel, integrated bracelet sports watch boom during that era. Spurred by their “Innovators by Tradition” tag, Tissot designed the PRX based on their interpretation of the now-ubiquitous category. The PRX was initially named the Seastar when it was introduced in 1978 but was subsequently renamed as an abbreviation for Precision, Reliability and X for the Roman numeral 10 — a reference to the water-resistance of the watch.

The flagship revival this year stays true to the original blueprint with an integrated bracelet construction that connects effortlessly to the watch case. Angled bevels along the case edges are subtle but amplify the seamless transition from the case to the bracelet. The retro influence of the 1970s is retained as well with a tonneau case and rounded dial display. Two iterations of the PRX — quartz and automatic —were introduced this year with the latter shown here. The PRX Powermatic 80, as it is known, differs with a tapisserie patterned dial as opposed to the smooth sunray finish on the quartz piece.

Tissot’s demonstration of the PRX abbreviation is very much on display with the automatic Powermatic 80 calibre that features a Nivachron hairspring that offers both precision, reliability and an impressive 80-hours power reserve. Keeping in line with the sports watch category, the PRX Powermatic 80 is delivered in a stainless steel case with 100m water-resistance for extra peace of mind.
