Today’s artists pay tribute to the Cartier Tank watch through a series of self-portraits that express their connection with the cult timepiece and a reflection of their creativity.

Satoshi Saïkusa is a Japanese photographer, portrait artist and sculptor who has lived and worked in Paris since the mid-1980s. Since the 2000s, Saïkusa has focused on sculptural photography alongside working in fashion photography. In particular, he developed a new technique for cutting and assembling his photographs.

Coco Capitán: Born in Seville, Spanish artist and photographer Coco Capitán quickly gained international notoriety as a fashion photographer at a tender age of 26. The London-based artist completed her Master of Fine Arts with Honours in the field of Photography at the Royal College of Art, London and is now an accomplished artist who combines photography, painting and performances with editorial work consisting of slogans and aphorisms. Her works include her first museum show in Asia titled “Is It Tomorrow Yet?” at the Daelim Museum in Seoul showcasing more than 150 works across photography, painting, writing, video and installation.

The Cult Status Of the Cartier Tank WatchLuis Alberto Rodriguez: Currently based in Berlin, Luis Alberto Rodriguez is an American photographer and dancer with Dominican roots. The author of “People of the mud” has seen his work featured in various exhibitions and publications, and won both the Prix du Public and the American Vintage prize at the 32nd Hyères Festival of Fashion and Photography in 2017. Fascinated by the human body in movement, Rodriguez brings his background as a professional dancer to his work as a photographer and places his models in strange positions through the exploration of the human bodies. “As a dancer, I use my knowledge of the body to guide the people I work with.”

The Cult Status Of the Cartier Tank WatchMoath Alofi: Born in Saudi Arabia in 1984, artist Moath Alofi is in charge of cultural programmes at the Al Madinah Region Development Authority. Alofi’s defining moments in the field of arts and his career came when he had his first exhibition, “Doors of Barlik” with Athr Gallery in 2016 and was appointed as the director of Madinah Art Center by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Salman respectively. He is also the founder of the Al-Mthba studio and the co-founder of Erth Team — a specialist production group focusing on safaris, aerial photography and travel documentation.

Gao Yuan: Gao Yuan is a leading Chinese photographer, particularly prevalent in the rock scene. Since 1990, she has photographed nearly every rock musician and the most important concerts. Her photographic collections bear witness to the vitality of rock in China.
