#MFMF95: Watch and Features Editor Asaph’s “Blast From the Past” Playlist
Every now and then, a wave of nostalgia floods in like a blast from the past whenever an old random song starts playing on the radio (or any other social media platforms). Till date some are still unfamiliar to me with only certain melodies or parts of the songs that stayed with me, others were firmly etched somewhere in my head, like an old jukebox retrieving a particular track. Recently I’ve been revisiting such songs for old time’s sake and incidentally they are by British bands.

So here’s my “Blast From the Past” (Brit Rock) Playlist.

Gorillaz — Clint Eastwood

Where do I begin? A funky tune created by a virtual band with that urban military-esque album art and a series of music videos presented in short cartoons. Looking back, Gorillaz was one of the bandwagon bands for me at that time no thanks to Feel Good Inc. and they deserve proper revisiting.

Muse — Origin of Symmetry

The entire “Origin of Symmetry” album gets a spot here on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, having been remixed and remastered by Muse. Old gems sound better while other juicy nuggets are waiting to be discovered. The reworks are subtle improvements that even more seasoned fans might miss.

Artic Monkeys — Balaclava

There’s something about a thick British accented song and them geezers Arctic Monkeys make a darn good one. Energetic, witty and a disguised meaning, “Balaclava” is a merely a prelude to the entire album.

Led Zeppelin — Stairway to Heaven

A blast from the past is a legendary song by an equally iconic band. “Stairway to Heaven” is the kind of music I’d put on while washing down a glass of neat whisky or two and another.
