Our cast of style influencers fought hard to reach the top rungs of the local music industry, but they remain steadfast, down-to-earth and relevant in their constantly evolving work.

Gavin Teo,
Singer / Actor

How does it feel to be pursuing your passion as a career?
It feels good. As the saying goes, “Choose a job you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life”. Sometimes, you may encounter a wall in your career, and it will discourage you, but you have to pull yourself up and work your way around it.

Who is your music inspiration?
Sam Kim is my music inspiration because he is crazily skilled in singing and guitar playing; I want to be like him one day.

If you were not a singer, what would be an alternative career choice?
Firefighter. It gives stability and flexibility to do the things I like to do. Most importantly, you get to help people and contribute to society.

How would you describe your personal style?
I like to dress plain and simple. I wear a lot of basic apparels, and they’re mostly in earth tones.

Do you think looks or talent is more important to be a successful artiste?
I think both are equally important, but if I have to choose one, I believe talent speaks louder than looks for an artiste in the long run because looks expire and talent won’t.

Emporio Armani collections take a trendy approach by designer Giorgio Armani, what new approaches do you think you bring to the industry as an artiste?
There’s no better trend than to be yourself; I think being my truest form would be a trend I would like to endorse – to be who I want to be.

What advice do you have for young artistes looking to break into the business?
No matter how good you think you are, there’s always someone better than you. Always be kind to people and stay humble regardless.

Axel Brizzy, Rapper

How does it feel to be pursuing your passion as a career?
It still feels surreal, to be honest, but I wouldn’t call it a career yet; that would be the ultimate goal though.

Who is your music inspiration? Russ is currently one of my biggest music inspiration. He doesn’t bite his tongue, and he always speaks the truth.

If you were not a rapper, what would be an alternative career choice?
Probably an athlete. I was really sporty back in secondary school; I played almost every sport there is, and I was the captain of the football team at one point too.

How would you describe your personal style?
It would be me doing all I can to stand out and show that I’m different, but doing it most effortlessly.

Do you think looks or talent is more important to be a successful artiste?
I think talent goes a longer way than looks. Looks won’t stay the same forever, whereas talent and knowledge grow as you work and practice hard. Not forgetting the right attitude, you can have both talent and looks, but a negative attitude will only spiral down.

Emporio Armani collections take a trendy approach by designer Giorgio Armani, what new approaches do you think you bring to the industry as an artiste?
I think I bring the surprise element. You’ll never really guess or predict what my next single or project will sound like because I’m not afraid to experiment with my music.

What advice do you have for young artistes looking to break into the business?
Take every opportunity in front of you and leave no stones unturned. If you want it enough, you’ll make it happen, but remember, no one else can help you but you.
