Usher in the Year of the Pig with These Chinese New Year-Themed Capsule Collections

  • By Khoo Yong Hao

Christmas seemed like it was only yesterday, but here we are barrelling towards the end of January at breakneck speed. Thankfully, respite awaits in early February as we usher in the Year of the Pig during the Chinese New Year. If you have not gone through the yearly ritual of refreshing your wardrobe, these CNY-themed capsule collections will solve your shopping woes for the upcoming festivities.

Bottega Veneta borrows the Pig’s synonymity with luck and fortune by imprinting it onto an array of leather goods, shoes and jewellery. Key rings and cufflinks are blessed with the little red piggy, while shoes and bags feature the Tartan Dots craftsmanship in varying shades of blue and red for a mesmerising three-dimensional effect.

Givenchy gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “When pigs fly”. Inspired by the astral themes and mystic mood running through artistic director Clare Waight Keller’s collection for the Parisian Maison, the capsule collection sees printed pigs given wings to soar on hoodies, windbreakers and T-shirts. Matching accessories in the form of bracelets and necklaces bear petite gold-finish pigs, doubling as cute companions for the otherworldly collection.

It is no secret that Gucci is a big fan of Walt Disney, what with his work being frequently referenced on the Italian house’s collections. This time, it is the Three Little Pigs that embellishes bags, shoes and sweaters, alongside a Gucci-designed pig protagonist that left its print on cardigans and T-shirts alike.

Red is the new black for Salvatore Ferragamo‘s take on the pig frenzy. The Italian fashion house took their signature colour and peppered it on accessories such as shoes and bags, while leather belts bearing the familiar Gancini emblem feature full red or black and gold counterparts.
