For Spring/Summer 2018, Kris Van Assche’s choice of runway sneakers provided solid footing for the black suit, white shirt looks of his collection. Bulky, multi-coloured and utterly pedestrian — a refreshing departure from the maxed-out kicks of late — they were the perfect counterpoint to the artistic director’s studied deconstruction/reconstruction of the emblematic Dior Homme suit. The dad-endorsed retro-style sneakers even evoke the nostalgia of “staying out for the first time”, back when you were young and unable to afford brand-name shoes, to tie in with the collection’s “Late Night Summer” theme. Beneath the basic streetwear exterior lies the precious quality and finishing of a French atelier, crafted with leather and technical fabrics.
Those who prefer a more streamlined silhouette can look to the classic B01 trainer. Designed for the everyday man, the shoe returns with a new rubber memory sole and quilted tongue that boast superior comfort and lightness. In addition to original details like the elongated suede toe cap and contrast heel panel, the B01 features the Christian Dior embossed bee motif and perforated stripe on the side for vintage athletic appeal. Available in navy blue, forest green, black, red and white colourways.
