Versace F/W 2016: Space Jam

  • By Ian Lee

Ready or not, Versace is geared for blast-off this season. While at the heart of most of its collections is sensible (but razor sharp) tailoring in the form of suits and coats, Versace’s latest is surely tuned for intergalactic travel. The uniforms of its space cadets are a bold amalgamation: sporty scuba sneakers, skin-tight leggings, see-through plastic carryalls, goggle-like shades and belted coats.

Flight jackets come in every possible iteration – zippered, strapped and buckled, with metallic panels or patches, and even cropped in leather. Then, there’s the excess of space badges in the form of XL brooches, pendants and rings, as well as gleaming embellishments that decorate everything from coat sleeves to dress trousers and track pants.

Elsewhere, sports-infused accessories – backpacks, totes and bowler bags, and wallets dangling from lanyards – get a serious boost with Versace’s signature Medusa head motifs and in-your-face astrology-inspired prints. There’s also no missing the cosmic colour combos: white or grey with gleaming foil silver, maroon or brown punched up with lavender, and head-to-toe ice blue with flashes of white. In short: just a piece or two from this collection will elevate your favourite basics to out-of-this-world.
