RUNWAY REPORT S/S 14: Tough Femininity at Gucci

Catch This Tough Femininity At Gucci Springsummer 2014 6

Frida Giannini’s latest for Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2014 menswear collection had an air of relaxed femininity to it. But don’t let the ‘femininity’ mood fool you; it was equally as tough, if not stronger than their recent Fall/Winter 2013 collection. But the word ‘tough’ can be interpreted in a variety of way, and here at Men’s Folio, we’ve interpreted Giannini’s collection as the Gucci’s man’s transition from glossy jet-setter to an equally as glossy, but more subdued and healthier gentleman. Perhaps her recent transition into motherhood had Giannini inspired?

The first outfit to walk the catwalk already has the whole collection covered — a monotonic floral printed t-shirt with matching leggings and a leather backpack. The glossy but subdued gentleman has also become more youthful and more athletic; and ‘athleticism’ is another perfect key word to describe the overall collection. Sportswear-inspired outwear in the form of parkas and anoraks, and military-inspired knitwear and jumpsuits make up one-half of the Gucci man’s persona; the tougher more sporty side. The other half, the more sensitive and high-maintenance side can be seen wearing the abundance of floral prints (no doubt going to be big editorial hits) or the array of neutral outerwear (one particular leather oversize camel shirt caught our attention) Giannini has presented. Gucci persona you are, this collection covers all ground in terms of trying to dress a man’s two polar opposite sides.
