Given the ubiquitous name and household status of the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra, it might surprise many that the collection is 21 years old this year. The collection was born in 2002 to celebrate Omega’s ocean heritage and the spirit of the iconic Seamaster. Its Latin namesake speaks of the vast bodies of water (Aqua) and land (Terra) that Omega perpetuates through its watchmaking exploits.

Over the past two decades, numerous Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra interpretations were created, including the revolutionary anti-magnetic Seamaster Aqua Terra > 15,000 Gauss and the Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra Light, amongst others. This year, chromatics form the bedrock of the latest newcomer, the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades. As technology has advanced in the brand’s anti-magnetic, chronometry or materials departments, colouration has also taken a step forward. To demonstrate its consistency and colour accuracy prowess at industrial levels, 12 models (including two solid gold models, 38mm Sedna Gold and 34mm Moonshine Gold) across two broad categories (38mm and 34mm) are created as part of the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades.

While the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades might lack the technical astuteness of Omega’s other eminent whizzkids, the collection makes up for it with character and personality through the use of colours. A combination of city chic and a keen affinity with the ocean makes the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades the perfect canvas to take on the colours, each used to reflect the wearer’s personality and character.

From the coolness of Atlantic Blue to the blazing Terracotta, the colourful dials are the main draw of the collection. Fun, fresh and vibrant, each dial begins from a humble piece of brass, first sunray brushed and lacquered after to impart extra depth. Surface treatment techniques of either Physical Vapour Deposition or Chemical Vapour Deposition are then used to impart unique hues.

Each colour is housed in a classic Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra case — symmetrical and fully polished in stainless steel with a wave-edged design on the back. A redesigned watch bracelet with finer rounded links offers an elegance that keeps up with the contemporary freshness of the different colours. Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8800 (Calibre 8801 for the solid gold pieces) powers the coloured line up, affording top-of-the-class accuracy and resistance to magnetic waves, shock and thermal fluctuations.
