With its capacity to unsettle our temporal sense, music invites us to consider realities outside of what we can see alongside fantasies that play out in our heads. It is a powerful enigma that makes up most of who we are — we spend on average 18.4 hours a week listening to music, the equivalent of 300 three-minute songs. But music is also a tool, which we have witnessed the late artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear, Virgil Abloh, explore in previous collections. The “LV Fall” capsule, which is a part of the Louis Vuitton Pre-Spring 2023 men’s collection, draws inspiration from the fabled events held at The Loft in 1970s New York and examines the interconnections between DJing and design.

The collection was created by Men’s Artistic Director Virgil Abloh before his passing on November 28, 2021, where the creative teams and associates he frequently collaborated with at Louis Vuitton carried out and realised his ideas.

The gatherings at The Loft brought together many kinds of individuals thanks to the unifying influence of music, which is also essential to Virgil Abloh’s practise. His legacy at Louis Vuitton constantly investigates how changing clothing norms can be employed as instruments to further anti-prejudice ideologies.

With the new Louis Vuitton Pre-spring 2023 collection, this sense of unbridled freedom is shown as an uncontentious attempt to draw fashion closer to the senses.
