Bottega Veneta’s Cobble Is A Bag That Will Age Like Fine Wine

  • By Charmaine Tan

Bottega Veneta’s latest addition to their bag repertoire cobbles the brand’s heritage with its penchant for distinctive creativity.

Amongst the last of pre-Matthieu Blazy’s Bottega Veneta lies a notably compact and fortuitous offering of functionality and craftsmanship. Make way for the Cobble — a classic flap shoulder bag from their Wardrobe 04 collection that features their Padded Intreccio technique on a softly structured body.

Despite the intensity and speed at which the house has evolved since his arrival, ex-creative director Daniel Lee never once took the Italian house’s artisanal roots for granted. The bold simplicity the Cassette and Pouch possess have his novel signature written all over, but the Cobble’s physique has a quiet poise more reminiscent of Tomas Maier’s creations, which take comfort in the simple and resist the fast-paced world with refreshing intention.

Unassuming and versatile, Bottega Veneta’s Cobble features a flap closure, unlined body, and an interior zip pocket under interwoven strips of buttery nappa leather. With a handle equal in width to the bag’s body, the bag comes together with visual continuity — easy to look at and easy to hold.

It is also easy to love because of the beautiful colours that it comes in. On top of an existing dark chocolate, warm caramel and a sensuous Bordeux red, new colours like licorice black and striking magenta weaves the magic of  sweet treats with Bottega Veneta’s timeless and genderless appeal. Just wait — this bag is going to prove yet again that the Italian house’s expertly crafted arm candies will stand the test of time.
