After the announcement of their partnership with larger-than-life personality Bear Grylls and the subsequent launch of the Bear Grylls Survival Land and Sea collection, Luminox is set to introduce the Luminox Bear Grylls Survival Air 3761 and 3762. Luminox prides itself on its robust timepieces that thrive in the most extreme conditions. It has supplied watches to various elite military, special forces and law enforcement units in the world — such as the Navy SEALs and Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue — as part of their standard equipment.

As with the other earlier releases, the final addition to the Luminox Bear Grylls partnership is filled with complications reviewed and approved by Grylls himself. In this instance, various dual-time elements are housed in a distinct aviation-inspired watch. An orange-tipped GMT hand tracks a second time zone on the 24-hour inner ring and can be paired with the bi-directional 24-city bezel for further utility.
—
Legibility does not take a backseat despite the busy dial layout as the various elements are sized and graduated accordingly. The minute track takes the outermost sector followed by the 24-hour ring and hour indexes. Nighttime readability is enabled by Luminox’s signature Luminox Light Technology self-illuminating tubes. A total of 14 such tubes are utilised, green for every five-minute intervals and orange tubes for the hands and 12 o’clock for orientation.

Unlike the liberal use of Luminox’s proprietary Carbonox and Carbonox+ in the other Survival Land and Sea collection, the 3761 and 3762 features a predominantly stainless steel case for a satisfying heft (editor’s note: see our story elsewhere this issue on why weight matters). Carbonox+ is used for the rotatable bezel since it resists scratches better. Luminox opts for sapphire crystal for additional peace of mind and hints of orange are added for cheerful contrast. The Luminox Bear Grylls Survival Air 3761 and 3762 are differentiated by their strap pairings with a choice of Cordura fabric strap or Milanese bracelet.
