Montblanc Explores the Other Side of the Mountain With Its Newest Release Montblanc’s star legacy collection inducts a new range of grey watches inspired by a different facet of the mountain.

Glaciers of the Mont Blanc mountain continues to inspire German watchmakers, Montblanc. From the brand’s name to its collections, their latest release takes a look at another facet of the vast mountain — its south-facing rocky side where snow has difficulty collecting.

The Star Legacy line welcomes a new range of watches into its family — introducing the Star Legacy Grey Capsule inspired by the grey glaciers of Mont Blanc. The range uses the Minerva pocket watch from the 20th century as its main inspiration; citing its pebble-shaped cases and domed sapphire crystals throughout its designs, the Star Legacy Blue was the first range released last year.

Rose-gold coated leaf-shaped hands and Arabic numerals compliment the grey face. Similarly, this release comes in three varying styles, all of them being an automatic movement, each apt for different occasions.

The smallest size — the Star Legacy Automatic Date 39mm, would be the most casual option out of the three. With a size that compliments most wrists, an optimal choice for everyday.

The watch displays the phases of the moon — with an elegant rose gold-coated moon and stars on a blue background display — at six o’clock, overlapping the grey glacier pattern in the background.

Lastly, the sportiest of the bunch — the Star Legacy Chronograph in 42mm. It features two counters at three and nine o’clock for an elegant look and important legibility. Time is told through rose-gold hands while the chronograph indications use rhodium-coated “baton” hands.

All of the variations comes in an interchangeable grey calf leather strap with an alligator print and are limited to 1786 pieces — honouring Jacques Balmat’s legendary first ascent up the Mont Blanc in the year 1786. Additionally, the rose-gold accents was chosen because Balmat sought gold when climbing, further celebrating the climber but also serving as a contrast against the grey glaciers of the watch dial.
