RUNWAY REPORT S/S 14: Tribal Technology at Givenchy

  • By Men's Folio

Runway Report Tribal Technology At Givenchy Riccardo Tisci is challenging his Givenchy fans and bringing them to a futuristic tribal ride through Africa; not necessarily tribal nerds, more tribal hipsters with a huge influence through modern technology. Long has he transitioned from the influences of his Latin roots, he has now moved on to the planes of Africa where he expressed the love he saw in the freedom the boys there had. Tisci talked about remembering images of small kids carrying huge boom boxes, the way they were carefree in the layering of their clothes; perhaps he was referring to the L.A. skate culture? A recent allure of his.

Boom boxes, sound systems, circuit grids, cassette tapes… his notorious prints have manifested itself to mimic the technology of sound, mixed together as symmetrical tribal patterns done in big bold primary colors. Less obvious prints where the tribal stripes he presented in some of the coats and shirts; a more literal sense of the African influence.

Perhaps treading new waters in the way he’s concocted the prints, expect the same silhouette that he has presented in Givenchy season after season; hoodies, sweatshirts, shorts over leggings, parkas… the usual edgy athleticism style that has trickled down to the streets, an already perfect equation that translate well for sales.
