LOUIS VUITTON

The venerable French house under the creative direction of Kim Jones looked to South America for inspiration this season, sending models down a runway specially-painted to resemble an aerial photograph of the Atacama desertscape. Animal geoglyph motifs from the majestic Nasca Lines are woven into knitwear while Peruvian stripes appear on scarves and outerwear. T-shirts are detailed with an artisan crotchet stitch and Aztec-style snakes made of sliced stones are appliquéd onto pullovers to resemble the iconic Damier check pattern. In a fitting homage, the finest South American materials including vicuña, python, silk and huarizo (an alpaca-llama crossbreed) are showcased in this contemporary ethnic-inspired collection. Accessories had an equally strong showing on the runway, extending the travel theme with reworked classics such as a backpack-duffle hybrid inspired by the Keepall travel bag, as well as totes and clutches featuring the iconic Louis Vuitton trunk handle.
