RIMOWA and MYKITA See The World With New Lasting and Lightweight Eyewear

RIMOWA and MYKITA combine the best of lasting, lightweight German design in new collaboration eyewear collection.

Speak of German craft and design solutions and a mention of RIMOWA is bound to come up. It’s not just because of the maison’s legacy in pioneering this design-first lifestyle — it’s the constant work they put into pushing their own boundaries that time and time again brings their name to the forefront of global design conversations. In this first quarter of 2025, we welcome a new chapter of RIMOWA’s collaborative feats: a joining of forces with yet another celebrated German design house, MYKITA, to launch an eyewear collection — built-to-last, lightweight, and fit for every design-inspired individual’s life.

Designed in collaboration between Berlin and Cologne, the eyewear collection is meticulously handcrafted at MYKITA HAUS in Berlin, drawing on RIMOWA’s signature lightweight aluminium designs and MYKITA’s advanced eyewear engineering to present a new generation of iconic sunglass designs in a timeless blend of form and function. There are two distinct design concepts anchor the release: the HERITAGE, a combination of MYKITA’s stainless steel craftsmanship and RIMOWA’s lightweight, anodized aluminium; and the VISOR, a sleek, ultra-lightweight shield concept that prioritises speed and movement, ideal for navigating dynamic environments in modern transit.

The HERITAGE series marks the first time MYKITA is using aluminium for sunglasses, with three shapes to show for it — the panto, square and aviator — and RIMOWA-reminiscent colourways of Silver and Black. Premium lenses with 100% UV protection in classic solid tones offer superior visual clarity, while advanced anti-reflective and hard coatings guard against peripheral reflections and ensure maximum durability.

On the other hand, the VISOR sees ultra-light stainless steel meet a toric lens shield. A MYLON® shield clip serves a functional and stylistic purpose, a nod to the beauty of technical innovation valued by both brands. The 100% UV protection in a variety of tones, from solid, semi-transparent or subtle mirror effect, are topped off with a wraparound coverage that protects from peripheral glare and reflections.

Accompanying the launch is a campaign starring the iconic German actor Udo Kier, hailing from Cologne – the birthplace of RIMOWA – and the charismatic Luxembourgish-German actress Vicky Krieps. The films and images take a light-hearted look at the bureaucratic process of getting a passport photo taken, but with a twist: they are allowed to keep on their glasses. With three different versions of each character – past, present, and a more flamboyant self – the campaign highlights the versatility of the RIMOWA MYKITA partnership and celebrates the multifacetedness of people.

“RIMOWA and MYKITA are two innovative German brands with deep technical expertise in their respective fields,” says RIMOWA’s CEO, Hugues Bonnet-Masimbert, “both known for recognisable design features and innovative use of materials. With shared values on durability and craftsmanship, fusing our emphasis on movement with MYKITA’s focus on vision was a natural fit.” On the other hand, MYKITA founder and creative director Moritz Krueger says that “this collaboration perfectly expresses the essence of ‘German design’ – where innovation and aesthetics come from owning both engineering and manufacturing expertise. Our collaborative design with RIMOWA is minimalist, essential and inherently distinctive, revealing the specialist knowledge in materials and craftsmanship that we each bring to the table.”

Starting April 10, 2025, the RIMOWA MYKITA collection, including the HERITAGE series (SGD 1,000) and VISOR series (SGD 870) will be available at RIMOWA stores islandwide, and MYKITA stores and exclusive retail partners worldwide.
