Fendi’s Peekaboo Stands as a True Testament to the Test of Time

  • By Cheryl Ong

Fendi’s Peekaboo bag has gone through a timeless evolution, and now its artistic voyage is imprinted into a limited-edition book, epitomising the classic bag’s allure through art.

Fashion — ever in flux — undergoes a captivating metamorphosis over time. It is a relentless evolution that reveals the essence of design as an art form. At the heart of this ever-shifting landscape lies the Peekaboo bag, a creation born from the creative genius of Silvia Venturini Fendi, Fendi’s Artistic Director of Accessories and Menswear. Now 15 years since its inception in 2008, a limited-edition book details the Peekaboo’s evolution and bears witness to one of fashion’s most iconic bags.

The Peekaboo-K bears testimony to the Midas touch of various artists across diverse mediums and campaigns from the mid-aughts to the digital age of the 2020s. It is more than just an iconic bag but a treasured work of art that acts as a blank canvas for the bag’s unlimited potential. Opening the book’s architectural marvel of an axonometric cover is a symphony of visual narratives of 80 bags from Fendi’s historical archive. Harmonised within its pages are the voices of three women from different generations of the Fendi family — Silvia Venturini Fendi, Delfina Delettrez Fendi, and Leonetta Luciano Fendi.

Fendi has established a legacy where fashion metamorphoses into art, and art becomes the embodiment of desire. The desire to attain cult status in a saturated market drives fashion houses to explore realms beyond their own, and the Peekaboo-K is a visual odyssey that tells their global infusion of artistic influences in four chapters.
