  • By Cheryl Ong

Savour new-to-menu items with a a 3-course set lunch menu, a 6-glass Wine Flight, and Atas Butter’s Kombu Lobster Risotto. Vin Geek makes wine approachable and affordable yet again, for the masses.

Almost a year ago, a hidden wine bar-cum-restaurant nestled in Pacific Plaza opened up for oenophiles and those seeking a great dinner spot after a long day of work. Vin Geek, offers an extensive range of wines, starting from as low as $2.50 per pour from their amusing wine dispenser. With a wide selection of curated white, red and rosé wines, Vin Geek is the place to be with a group of friends or family, while expanding your palette for wines.

Weekday Lunch Vin-ing
While they are known for their wines and dinners, Vin Geek now caters to those in search of a delightful midday indulgence, making it the ideal destination regardless of the occasion. Their new 3-Course Set Lunch Menu, is designed to be approachable and affordable for everyone. For a mere $25, one can relish a starter, main course, and dessert that will fill you up to your heart’s content. Want a lighter option? Opt for the 2-Course menu where where you can choose either a tantalising starter or a heavenly dessert, along with a main course and a glass of wine. As Vin Geek cheekily declares, “Wine is the purpose. Food is just the vessel.”

The mouthwatering selection of Italian cuisine includes appetisers like Burrata, Smoked Salmon, and Yellow Spring Chicken, Risotto for their mains. To end off a scrumptious meal, delight in their Tiramisu, or Panna Cotta. Dine on a budget or go all out while relishing in delectable food and wine in broad daylight — if it fits the shoe, you may resonate with their saying, “I always have my plate full. As for my wine glass? That’s another story…”.

Opt for the white if you want something light and easy to down, and the red for a medium-bodied touch — both pair great with the lunch mains such as the Pork Loin, Wagyu Beef Chuck Roll, and Cioppino.

The lunch menu is available on weekdays including PH, 12pm to 3pm (last order at 2:30pm).

A Grape War with the Battle of The Grapes
Vin Geek’s charm lies in its witty humour and deconstructing the intimidating notions of drinking wine. For new drinkers or anyone who would use the excuse of drinking more, enter the debate of Old World versus New world wines with their Battle of The Grapes Wine Flight. The flight includes a set of white, red and sweet wine under both the old world and new world wines in 50ml amounts. Running until the end of July, this interactive experience combines traditional wine tasting with a geeky twist of a three-part quiz — the perfect segue into getting acquainted with a new realm of wines.

The curated selection includes Old World red wine Château Calon Segur Saint Estephe 2005, New World white wine Rombauer Chardonnay Carneros 2020 and sweet wines, Balthasar Ress Schloss Reichartshausen Rheingau Riesling Spatlese 2011 and Langmeil Barossa Live Wire Medium Sweet Riesling 2012, and more. Vin Geek’s sommelier selected them due to their similar flavour profile and notes, allowing us to understand the subtle difference between the wines. For others who wish to challenge their taste buds, you can vote for your favourite bottle to stand a chance to wine a mystery one at the end of the month.
Meet The Geeks
The restaurant takes things up a notch with their “Meet The Geeks” series, collaborating with like-minded wine enthusiasts. In a nod to supporting local artisanal brands, their first partnership features Atas Butter, renowned for their flavour-infused artisanal cultured butter. In the Kombu Lobster Risotto, a succulent Maine lobster tail bathed in Kombu-infused Cultured Butter sits atop a bed of creamy risotto — best accompanied with the red wine, Domaine de Montorge Montagny 1er Cru.

Whether you are a wine connoisseur or simply seeking a new culinary experience, Vin Geek is a welcoming space were affordability meets sophistication. If wining and dining is not enough, stock up at the small grocer that lies within the space selling — yes, even more bottles of wine and food to go along with it. So, what will you be vi-ning today?
