Summer’s properly here and that can only mean one thing: the return of Waterbomb Festival. Ahead of its Singapore pitstop happening on 30 and 31 August at Siloso Beach, we catch up with JayB of GOT7, who will take the stage on Day 2 as part of Team Sky — scroll on to catch up on how the 3rd-generation group has been enjoying their reunion on stage and off, how the leader of the group has been spending his time as a soloist, and a sweet little message to all Ahgases who are going to be watching his stage.
Hi JayB! It’s been a while since Men’s Folio spoke to you since March 2019 — how has life been since then?
I’ve been well and healthy, putting out a lot of albums and trying my best to stay healthy.
You mentioned then that good music is born “when an idea has been precisely expressed, and the listeners could sympathise and be comforted by the music at a certain point of time.” Has that definition changed?
No, I still feel the same way. However, one thought has been added: I want to create and release many songs that I myself would want to listen to for a long time.

It’s no secret the long and arduous journey GOT7 has gone through to be where it is today, standing strong and still as one. What aspect of this journey are you most proud of?
I think I’m proud of every journey we’ve taken. I’m proud of all seven of us, and I believe we have every right to be. There isn’t one specific journey, but it’s true that every journey has been difficult, and I’m equally proud of all of them.
While you are the official GOT7 leader, what are some moments when your other members step into the leader role? E.g. dance practice, deciding what to eat, keeping spirits up.
It’s hard to pick out a specific moment because each person does their part so well. ^^
What is one song from your solo discography that you are most proud of? Why?
I think “Whiskey” is good. I just like the mood and the meaning that song conveys.
Without giving any spoilers, what solo or GOT7 song do you think would be great for Waterbomb?
“Hard Carry” is the best, hehe.
Last but not least, what message would you like to send to Ahgases?
Let’s have a fun time at WATERBOMB! And thank you always for your support and love! Ahgase, stay happy and healthy always~!!
