At Path, the Most Elegant Christmas Dinner This Season

At Path, the Most Elegant Christmas Dinner This Season
Elegant plated that ends with an equally elegant finish, Christmas dinner at Path sates without making you sink into your chair.

If I squint my eyes and allow the fog in my brain to clear, I can remember how I nearly ate myself into a coma last Christmas. I should have noted the clear signs from the message sent by my friend (“Let’s go ham, fam”) but as they say, that’s what elasticated-waist trousers are for.

Instead of recommending you to stuff your gut or eat your body weight in turkey stuffing (I googled and apparently, it’s quite possible), Chef Marvas of Path has created one heck of an elegant Christmas dinner menu.

Setting the tone for the main event are Chef Marvas’s Canapes, a mix of hot and cold dishes before one of the main highights follow up: the French Artic Char. A cold-water fish that eschews the usual brininess with the deft hands of Chef Marvas; it is served in a sauce made with the bones of the fish, white wine for acidity, heavy cream and salty fish stock. In true Path fashion — colours, flavours, and texture — sliced heirloom tomatoes are served over it.

Pictured above too, in its full Instagrammable glory, is the Australian Wagyu Beef Tartare; the meat mixed with shallots and spicy doubanjiang before fresh baby spinash and a smoked quail’s egg is balanced over it.

In the main section, there is the BBQ Quail Drumlet (it’s served with a housemade chicken jus and comes with Jerusalem artichoke foam and a silky pistachio paste), Shanghainese Hairy Crab Roe (you might want to add Japanese uni for $35) atop a supple housemade soy curd, and Braised Australian Wagyu Short Rib “Canton Style Pot Au Feu”, the last course of the set.

At its base, a housemade beef “essence” concoted from a a whole pot-full of different cuts of beef including beef bones, tendons and marrow and for its ingredients, wagyu short ribs and root vegetables.

And if you’re wondering what the bauble is in the photos, it’s a sweet and spicy edible sphere of single malt whiskey ice cream, nuts and chocolate.

While the Path Christmas dinner menu only runs from 22nd to 25th December, the happy times just got happier; the establishment is offering a special drinks promotion from 22 to 25 December, and 30 to 31 December which consists of a Flight of 3 (Henriot Brut Souverain, NV; Sauvignon Blanc and Parallèle 45) for $42+++ or two hours free-flow of Henriot Brut Souverain. The catch for the latter however, is that everybody at your table has to do the same.
