#TheDrip — Celine Haute Parfumerie Candle Collection Immortalises Traditions of French Perfumery
Each week, we dive into the vast archives of our favourite brands and houses to extract and share their most luxurious (and thus, pricey) miscellanea. This week, our drip of choice is Celine’s Haute Parfumerie Candle Collection.

The Maison’s first foray into fragrance was with the launch of its perfume collection in 2019, a compilation of scents for day and evening wear that drew inspiration from Slimane’s own diaries. Like the perfumes before it, Celine’s eight new luxury candles, of which two will be released only later in the year, will be both an expression of Slimane’s personal history and an ode to the grand traditions of French perfumery, a legacy that the brand defines as couturier parfumeur.

The eight candles in the range will feature the familiar powdery and addictive scents from Celine’s fragrance collection, inclusive of Nightclubbing, which smells of nicotine and ‘the nape of a neck fragrant with vanilla’, as well as new fragrances, like Palimpsest, a blend of gallica rose, pear, ivy and moss, and Grands Lys, an intriguing combination of pimento, ylang-ylang, and heliotrope. These are not only representative of the scents found in Slimane’s own home, but also of salons des Maisons de couture, the Maison’s home in Paris.

Guided by Slimane, these candles were created by the in-house wax maker, whose training in perfumery, a unique trait for someone in wax-making, has given him an unparalleled understanding of how fragrance and wax work together to diffuse into a room. Each wax is made according to its fragrance, with six to seven waxes and oils used for each perfume concentrate, as well as a different wick dimension for each scent to optimise diffusion.

The candle collection remains within the same olfactory line as the perfumes: a powdery and addictive signature. For each composition, the high-quality natural materials harmonize with sophisticated accords. As the hours go by, their notes unfold in the atmosphere, leaving an invisible and muted patina on familiar objects.

Currently, six of these candles are available, with two more to be released at the end of the year.
The chic black containers for the candles are inspired by 18th-century silver goblets, multi-panelled and designed by Slimane to exude the same confidence the scents hold, the monochrome look is nothing but contemporary in design. This is complemented with additional candle accessories that include a candle snuffer, wick trimmer, matches and a travel case in the Maison’s Triomphe canvas.

If this does not read as a charming age-old scent-in-the-making, it very well will be with time. Just like all scented objects have in the romantic traditions of French culture.
