Enter the GATSBY Meta Rubber Line that like its name suggests, transcends your expectations of hairstyling products with six ones that apply cleanly, hold strong, and wash off with ease.
During the presentation of the GATSBY Meta Line, Assistant Brand Manager Markairn pulled out the Moving Rubber wax while illustrating the history of the brand and it got me thinking about how GATSBY has always been part of a millenial Singaporean son’s rite of passage.
In 2009 when we were teenagers, said Moving Rubber was part of the starter kit for a generation who either skewed indie sleaze, sharp suiter, or a combination of Lachoswki-Mohr-Pry. And come the late 2010s, or some might say the hipster period, we slicked on the Dressing Pomade while subsisting on a diet of galaxy-everything, avocado toast, and poke bowls. One of the said pomades was even hilariously called Yuppie Mat.
In 2022 and in particular, the year when Gen-Zers became the largest generation globally, GATSBY’s next move was to create THE DESIGNER line: five products ranging from waxes to gels that catered to said generation’s way of fashion. Self-identity, self-love, and self-expression. IE: versatile in use, kind to hair health, and making any style achievable.
So what makes the GATSBY Meta Rubber line even better than everything they’ve done before? Firstly, they feel even lighter than before but retain their high pliability which is a boon in our rising heat and humidity (it helps too, that the products thoroughly wash off with warm water). Secondly, they’re created in collaboration with Japan-based salon fifth which has been influencing styles like the twisted spiral perm, mash wolf, and spice short to Tokyoites. Lastly, there are now new innovations: a gel formula that gives the hold of wax and a foam that creates a one-day-permed look.
