G-SHOCK marks another milestone in its storied history as it celebrates three decades of the MR-G “full-metal” collection. Beyond its material construction, the lauded MR-G collection has gained cult status for its desirable mix of artisanal Japanese craftsmanship and advanced technologies.

This year, G-SHOCK turns to the polar brinicle (brine icicle) in freezing ocean depths for inspiration that best encapsulates its ethos of taking toughness to the limit. The naturally occurring phenomenon forms under polar sea ice, with hollow, downward‑growing tubes of ice extending towards the seafloor. The watch best poised to capture this expression is the FROGMAN, G-SHOCK’s full-fledged shock-resistant 200m diver’s watch.

Under the guise of the brinicle’s bluish crystalline structure, the COBARION alloy bezel is finished with hand-cut facets under the supervision of master cutting and polishing artisan Kazuhito Komatsu. The President of the Komatsu Cutting Factory is well known for his Hana Shinju faceted pearls produced by applying traditional diamond-cutting techniques cuts to the surfaces pearls. He was the first Japanese artisan to be conferred the first prize in the US-based “Gemmy” awards for gem-cutting in 2009 and placed third in the Monodzukuri Nippon Grand Award Prime Minister’s Prize. With a hardness rating four times that of titanium and the lustre of platinum, a blue arc ion plating (AIP) process further evokes the mystery of the brinicle.

The FROGMAN’s two iconic front screws are each set with a lab-grown 57-facet round brilliant-cut blue sapphire as the icing on the celebratory edition. Each of the 800-piece limited-edition FROGMAN MRG-BF1000EB is individually numbered and presented in a specially designed box developed in collaboration with the Japanese high-end luggage brand Proteca. The watch is paired with an interchangeable Dura-Soft rubber strap and a titanium bracelet.
