Today we unveil the Men’s Folio Blue Ribbons Watch Award for the Watch Leading Sustainable Efforts and Mechanically Advanced Dress Watch. The Blue Ribbon has always been associated with excellence and awarded in recognition of distinction. Men’s Folio is proud to unveil the second edition of the Blue Ribbon Watch Award for the timepieces that stood out amongst its peers.

Men’s Folio Blue Ribbons Watch Award: the Watch Leading Sustainable Efforts and Mechanically Advanced Dress WatchCartier Tank Must Solarbeat — The Watch Leading Sustainable Efforts Award
Cartier debuted two innovations for the Tank Must as they cast their eyes on a sustainable future. A solar-powered movement and a watch strap free from animal materials are Cartier’s vision of sustainability and eco-friendliness. An in-house SolarBeat movement two years in the making allows the dial to harness solar energy, allowing the watch to operate for an average of 16 years. Photovoltaic cells hidden under delicate and invisible perforations on the Roman numerals allow the technology to blend seamlessly into the Tank Must without altering its aesthetics. The redesigned strap comprises 40% plant matter produced using waste from apples grown for the food industry in Switzerland, Germany and Italy. This reduces Cartier’s carbon footprint by up to six times and saves up to 10 litres of water and seven megajoules of energy (approximately 200 smartphone charges) compared to the manufacturing of calf straps. The new Tank Must also celebrates the rise of gender neutral watches, with designs that no longer identify with traditional gender roles. Sizes are presented in sizes ranging from extra-large to small, catering to various preferences of all genders.

Omega’s vision of an understated dress watch was brought to life when it released the Trésor in 1949. What was meant to embrace the subtleties of watchmaking is now met with an advanced edge as Omega presented the Trésor Co-Axial Master Chronometer Power Reserve during spring this year. Formal and minimalistic, the Trésor Power Reserve has all the makings of a dress watch with its modest 40mm diameter and slim profile (just a hair thicker than 10mm). The Bauhaus-inspired dial highlights the masterful watchmaking nous of Omega with the tight control over proportion and symmetry. Omega’s top-of-the-range Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8934 is Master Chronometer certified — meeting the six stringent requirements (accuracy, anti-magnetism, water resistance, shock resistance, durability and less servicing) set by METAS (Federal Institute of Metrology). The three-day power reserve can be tracked by the power reserve indicator — one of the most useful complications — set on the top side of the dial.
