#MFMF100: Editor-in-Chief Wilson's "Megamix" Playlist

What a coincidence that the 100th edition of Men’s Folio Music Friday falls on this week’s theme of “Simply the Best”. Therefore, it’s a no-brainer to feature a megamix playlist that features some of my favourite artiste’s best songs in one song!

A megamix playlist can be thought as a tightly-curated introductory track to a new audience, but it can also be an extremely feel-good song for already-fans. What naturally follows after a megamix playlist is lining up the songs in its entirety into another “megamix (full) playlist”.

The fulfilling emotion that comes from the successive best hits can be described as… simply the best. One tip: adjust the crossfade timing to a sensible five seconds for seamless playback.

Becky Hill — Becky Hill’s Radio 1 Dance Weekend Mashup

I have an extreme fondness for BBC Radio 1, so I was surprised I have never chanced upon this megamix playlist prior to working on my last edition of #MFMF (which featured Becky Hill). For me, this megamix has Becky Hill firmly replaced Cascada in my hearts (the artistry of performing the songs live really did it for me) and I fell in love all over again with Hill’s “Better Off Without You”.

Steve Aoki — Steve Aoki Lollapalooza 2021 — Closing Perry’s Stage

Frequent readers of my #MFMF would know for sure that Steve Aoki will make the list and a DJ’s setlist is technically also a megamix playlist. Take a stab at the video above, it will make anyone miss musical festivals and a good party. Most importantly, Aoki starts off with one of my favourite tracks — “ILYSM“ that features Autoerotique too.

Britney Spears — Megamix (Live from the 2016 Billboard Music Awards)

Featuring this megamix will no longer cast doubt that I am obviously #TeamBritney from the noughties’s pop princess rivalry. Yes, she is lip-synching but it is Spears’s better performances after all (hello #FreeBritney saga?) — turn off the visual and just bop to the tunes!

Justin Timberlake — Pepsi Super Bowl LII Halftime Show

At this juncture, my selections are very telling of which pop era I grew up in. Justin Timberlake’s performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show started my obsession for the event where visual and musical spectacle heightens — somewhat like a Haute Couture of music.

Amazing songs and an equally astonishing performance, Timberlake was also wearing Stella McCartney’s collection for men!
