#MFMF73: Watch and Features Editor Asaph’s “I’m All the Way Up” Playlist

  • By Asaph Low

My choice of music is influenced by the my mood or activity — slow blues when mellow, rock for adrenaline-pumped moments or high tempo beats to remain focused.

For times when I’m feeling the swagger and confidence, a little rap won’t hurt; especially when them guys are rapping about their stacks, Gs and Louis V.

Here is my “I’m All the Way Up” Playlist

A$AP Rocky — Angels

Ten gold chains, wood grain, propane / Sell the whole thang from the cellphone rang

No one can deny the influence of Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye A$AP Rocky’s musical influence in the age we live in. Inspired by Harlem, New York, Rocky is not shy about expressing himself, especially his good looks. After all, he is the self-professed Pretty Motherf*cker. Whether it’s a slower beat like Angels or machine gun fast.

A$AP Mob — Yamborghini High ft. Juicy J

When Rocky is present, you can be sure Ferg, Nast and the rest of the mob are around too. Cozy Tapes: Vol. 1 Friends is a mesh up of their artistry, bringing different styles of rap together. Yamborghini High pays respect to the mob’s head honcho, the late A$AP Yams who masterminded the group and individual’s successes.

Drake — Gyalchester

Go through every album of Drake and you will be surprised to find the amount of good songs he makes. There is more to Drake than his hit singles, Gyalchester from More Life being one of my favourites. You will notice the influence of Grime, having worked with Skepta and Giggs for the album, which brings me to my next song…

Skepta — Bullet From A Gun

If have not listened Grime, this is your chance to be exposed to that beautiful world of Brit rap and electronic music. Fast paced beats mixed with a distinct accent makes for a good listen. Yes, Stormzy is the face of Grime but there is no denying the influence of Skepta.
