Ringing in the Year-End Festivities with DFS Changi Airport and Actor, Joshua Tan

  • By Asaph Low

In the spirit of the holiday season, we got actor Joshua Tan to play a game of ring toss to select spirits from DFS Changi Airport that he would like to gift for the year-end festivities.

Alcohol selections from DFS Changi Airport:
On left, clockwise from top: Smirnoff Red No. 21 Vodka, SAITO Premium Junmai Sake, Royal Salute 21 Years Old Lost Blend, Pessac-Léognan de Carbonnieux, Baileys Irish Cream.

On right, clockwise from top: Château Clinet Pomerol by Clinet, Bottega Gold Prosecco DOC, Whitley Neill Lemongrass & Ginger Gin, Glenfiddich Grand Cru, Chivas Regal 18 Years Old.

What do the year-end festivities mean to you?
Lots of self-love, pigging out and spending quality time with family and friends.

How do you personally celebrate during the festive season?
My family tries to go on a family trip once a year and that usually happens during December. Last year we were in New Zealand, doing a road trip around the Southern Islands.

What is your fondest memory of Christmas?
My fondest memory was when I was a kid —  receiving Christmas presents from my parents and staying up till midnight to open them. But as I’ve grown older, presents take on a different meaning because I can afford to give. Giving is special too, even more than receiving.

What is your go-to party drink?
Whiskey, I’m a whiskey man.

If all else fails?
A good ol’ beer.

What spirits from DFS Changi Airport would you like to gift your friend, partner and yourself?

For Tosh it would definitely be gin because it’s something I know he really enjoys.

For my partner I would give Zoen whiskey, she doesn’t really drink so if anything the whiskey would come back to me, which I would really enjoy.

For myself I would gift bourbon to be more adventurous.

What would a Joshua Tan cocktail comprise of?
Mint and the addition of something fresh and fruity. The spirit would be whiskey but I’m not sure how well that would turn out. Maybe vodka or gin would be better.

What is a severely underrated spirit?
Bourbon because it has its uses.

What is your go-to party trick?
Being present, that is my trick.

What are you looking forward to in 2020?
Having more opportunities as a leading man because I get passed on for looking too young. Hopefully things change when I hit the big three next year!
