Luxottica’s Class of 2016

  • By Henry Boen

Think The Breakfast Club with eyewear being the trendiest fashion craze – and you’ll get the gist of Luxottica’s newest and definitely most nostalgic campaign: Class of 2016.  Revolving around the idea of traditional yearbooks, Class of 2016 bands a selected group of style icons and creative mavericks from different communities together to portray a group of high school clichés. The cast includes the Class President (played by New York cool kid extraordinaire Mike the Ruler), the Nerd (Irish Rapper Rejjie), the Prom Queen (model Mae Lapres), the Dreamer (photographer Gray Sorrenti), the Teacher (model Hari Nef), and the Rebel who’s portrayed perfectly by 93-year-old Iris Afpel.

The nostalgia-themed project challenges the stigma of glasses being unfashionable and worn solely for their utilitarian purpose, by glorifying it as a stylish statement accessory that injects personality and charm to the wearer. The campaign, lensed by Fumi Nagasaka and styled by Elizabeth Fraser-Bell in New York, features more than 15 styles of opticals with a set of group shots, classic yearbook photos, and candid interviews.
