Paul Smith X Apple Music Playlists

  • By Vimi Haridasan

What goes on in the head of a designer is and may always be a mystery. However in the case of Paul Smith, we now get a chance to find out what inspires him to produce the creations that we have come to love. It is not surprising that Smith takes his inspiration from music, afterall this is a man whose mantra is “you can find inspiration in everything.” The leading British designer is giving us a glimpse of his world and how it influences his creations.

Collaborating with Apple Music, the designer is releasing a series of playlists, curated to reflect his taste and career in fashion. Consisting of three playlists, Smith will be exploring particular aspects of his relationship with music. The first playlist called “Around the World in 20 Tracks” relates to his global travels. “Something old, something new…” is the second, which the designer has broken up in four parts. It brings together the past and present influences that inspire his designs.

For the final one in the series, “From Herbie to Holiday”, Smith pays tribute to his favourite jazz musicians. The designer was lucky enough to have met them, in person, as a young man. Accompanying each playlist is a short film that shot in various places around London: Notting Hill, Rough Trade (the designer’s favourite record shop) and his office in Covent Garden.

The playlists by Paul Smith are now available on Apple Music.
