MB&F launches the Melchior, a collectible for its 10th anniversary

  • By Men's Folio

Known to shy away from conventions, watchmaker MB&F marks its ten-year milestone since entering the industry in 2005 by producing Anniversary Pieces under the theme: “A creative adult is a child who survived”. One of them is Melchior, a tableclock fashioned as a kinetic robot, a collaboration with Switzerland’s high-end clock manufacturer, L’Epee. Paying homage to the most enduring fascination of every child, Melchior is as animated as any robot gets.

With articulated weaponized arms and a combination of fixed vents with revolving discs both bearing radial propeller motifs which creates a blinking effect, endowing the robot with a human touch. The mechanical regulator propped atop the robot’s head symbolizes Melchior’s brain at work; just as the brain governs the body, the regulator governs the clock’s remarkable precision. Melchior’s steel chest bears high-performance movements, where hours and minutes are displayed via discs bearing MB&F’s signature numerals, while a dial on its abdomen is the power reserve indicator. Boasting a reserve of up to 40 days, this robot is as competent as it is advanced. Limited to only 99 pieces, this majestic creation is available in a monochromatic ‘light’ edition or a two-tone ‘dark and light’ edition featuring black PVD-treated components.
